Galway Bay fm newsroom – The government has been urged to provide a breakdown of ambulance response times in the North-West Connemara area.
The matter was raised in the Seanad today by Sinn Fein Senator Trevor O’Clochartaigh who said waiting times in areas including Leenane, Maam and Clifden have now reached crisis point.
Campaigners have been calling for the re-establishment of a Red Cross ambulance in the area but this would require funding for two qualified paramedics.
Speaking in the Seanad, Senator O’Clochartaigh said residents in the area are struggling with two to three hour delays which are not acceptable.
He requested a breakdown of response times from the National Ambulance Service so the situation can be accurately assessed.
Speaking on behalf of Health Minister Leo Varadkar, Minister of State Dara Murphy said the model of service delivery is changing.
