Galway Bay fm newsroom – Staff at University Hospital Galway are to be balloted for industrial action over plans by the HSE to extend the emergency department.
The plan would see an expansion into space currently occupied by the physiotherapy and social work departments.
It’s feared this could see physio services moved to Merlin Park and social work services moved to a prefab on the hospital campus at UHG.
Impact trade union is to ballot its members over the plan with the process due to commence tomorrow (Thurs).
Impact spokesperson Padraig Mulligan says the concerns all relate to serious patient care issues.
