More homes have been flooded in the Gort area overnight and others are under threat as flood waters across this area, and a number of other parts of Galway continue to rise.
Additional soldiers and a Defense Forces helicopter have been deployed to assist Council Crews and the Civil Defence in bolstering flood defences, especially the filling and placing of sand bags around properties under threat.
Crews are working around the clock to hold the water back and more rain is forecast
At least 30 homes remain under threat from floodwaters, while as manay as a dozen have already been overwhelmed by the rising water levels.
County Council Director of Services Liam Gavin says motorists travelling in the Gort area should stick to the main routes as many side roads remain impassable.
