Galway Bay fm newsroom – Irish Water says cryptosporidium is to blame for the boil water notice which has been imposed on Loughrea, Craughwell and the surrounding area.
Following advice from the HSE, Irish Water and Galway County Council has issued the boil notice for the Loughrea public water supply and the Craughwell area.
Supplies or group schemes in the following areas are affected by the boil water notice: Earlspark, Masonbrook, Newtowndaly, Loughrea Rural, Kileenadeema, Carrowmore/Clostoken, Caherlaven, Carrigean, Caherdine.
The Ballymanna Group Water Scheme has advised that the boil water notice does not affect it’s members.
Irish Water is advising customers in these areas to boil their water before using it for drinks, food preparation, brushing teeth or making ice.
Irish Water spokesperson Sean Corrigan says the recent heavy rain and flooding has contributed to the problem.
