Galway Bay fm newsroom – Unemployment is continuing to rise in Galway.
Last month, the number of people on the Live Register increased by 117.
There are now 16,177 people out of work in the city and county.
The biggest increase in unemployment in January was in the city where an extra 106 people signed on.
There are now just over 8,140 people without jobs in the city.
The next biggest increase in unemployment last month was in Clifden, where 30 more people joined the Live Register.
Clifden’s unemployment figure now stands at just over 990 people.
24 more people signed on in Ballinasloe in January, bringing its jobless figure to 1906.
Gort saw an increase of 9 on it’s Live Register figure in December.
There are now just over 1,150 people out of work in the Gort area.
Bucking the trend last month was the Tuam area – which saw 51 people come off the unemployment register, bringing its jobless figure to just over 2370.
While one person came off the Live Register in Loughrea – there are now 1604 people out of work in Loughrea.
There’s a total of 16,177 on the Live Register across Galway, an increase of 117 since December.
This figure is still a decrease of more than 10 per cent on unemployment figures for the same period in 2015.
