Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Dublin man convicted of the armed robbery of a city jewellers is appealing his sentence of ten years imprisonment at the Court of Criminal Appeal.
Gavin Carabini, of Our Lady’s Road, Maryland in Dublin stole 40 Rolex and Cartier watches worth more than a hundred thousand euro from Hartmann Jewellers, William Street on November 28th, 2008.
One of three masked men who held up female staff and a customer, Carabini was armed with iron bars and one of the other raiders had a pistol.
The heist prompted a high speed Garda chase and a major manhunt in the Athenry area.
Carabini’s legal team have argued that the sentence was at the higher end of the scale and that there were mitigating circumstances, including his background and the fact he wasn’t carrying a gun.
