Galway Bay fm newsroom – Ballinasloe experienced a major increase in drugs offences last year.
Figures show that the number of cases more than doubled during 2015 – by far the biggest increase across the county.
There were 30 cases of controlled drug offences recorded in Ballinasloe during 2014.
That figure rose dramatically to 71 last year.
Ballinasloe was the only area in the entire county to experience such a dramatic rise, with many areas recording significant decreases in such cases.
Galway city say the biggest drop, falling from 344 cases in 2014 to 316 last year – while Salthill saw a drop from 29 to 18 offences during the same period.
There were notable drops in many areas including Oranmore, Clifden, Kinvara, Loughrea and Claregalway.
However, some areas saw a considerable rise in drug offences – Gort went from 11 cases in 2014 to 18 last year, while Barnaderg went from no cases to 4 during the same time.
There were minor increases in many other areas including Athenry, Dunmore, Portumna, Headford and on Inis Mór.
