Galway Bay fm newsroom – The HSE has revealed that it plans to build a 50 bed extension to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.
The development will consist of a new two-storey block that will also include ancillary accommodation, linking routes to the hospital and a new service road.
Councillor Michael Finnerty says that the new accommodation will consist of 50 single bed rooms with en-suite facilities.
He says the proposed extension will be a high-end modular building that will be assembled on-site once ground works are completed.
It’s expected that the long-awaited works will get underway in early 2017, subject to planning permission and the securing of capital funding.
Councillor Finnerty says the new block will allow the hospital to refurbish older wards without compromising on patient accommodation or care.
