Galway Bay fm newsroom – A county councillor has accused Irish Water of scaremongering over the recent lead piping controversy.
Ballinasloe area councillor Michael Connolly says Irish Water’s estimate of 5 thousand euro to replace lead pipes shows that the utility is ‘completely out of touch with reality.’
Councillor Connolly says affected householders are being put under unneccesary worry over the cost of replacing the pipes.
Irish Water is to write to 84 households in Galway in its investigation into possible lead pipe contamination.
In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, the utility says the number of affected households could rise as the meter installation process continues.
Councillor Connolly is calling on the council to write to the Environment Minister and Irish Water to ask them for more flexibility in the council’s service level agreement with the utility.
