Councillors vote to remove residential cap at Crown Square site

City councillors have voted to remove the residential cap on any future development at the unfinished former Crown Control site in the city.
The decision comes despite extensive lobbying from local residents against any change to the current planning conditions, which impose a 20% limit on residential development.
Alongside residential development limits, local residents have also expressed concern over potential changes to height restrictions and access points to the Crown Square Plaza development.
However, a recent meeting of the city council to discuss the City Development Plan was primarily centred around the issue of the 20% residential cap imposed on the NAMA-owned property.
City councillors heard an executive recommendation that the residential cap be removed – and the majority voted to back this approach.
The revised planning conditions will be the subject of a public consultation at a later date.
