Galway City Council is investigating the felling of trees in Salthill Park over the weekend.
Four mature trees were cut down at Salthill Park last Saturday morning and Gardaí and a community warden attended the scene.
Staff from the Parks and Recreation Department of the Council attended the park this morning to assess the damage.
A council spokesperson says the local authority is now liaising with Gardaí.
Councillor Donal Lyons says he understands that no permit was granted to fell the trees near Park Avenue off Dalysfort Road.
