Galway Bay fm newsroom – Permission has been granted for maintenance and refurbishment works at the Claddagh Basin.
Lough Corrib Navigation Trustees is leading the project at the city protected structure.
The work includes the removal, refurbishment and reinstatement of the existing lock gates to prolong their life span.
It also provides for anchor support and a new pedestrian footbridge attached to the refurbished lock gates.
City planners have given the project the green light subject to six conditions.
This includes a stipulation that the works are carried out strictly in accordance with the detailed architectural and archaeological report.
The works are also to be supervised by a conservation architect who will record all changes at the site.
