A report on fire safety in Traveller accommodation across Galway is to be published shortly
It’s part of a national audit ordered in the wake of the Carrickmines tragedy.
The report was ordered last October, following the deaths of 10 people, including five children, at a temporary halting site in Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown.
Earlier this year, Galway City and County Councils completed fire safety audits of Traveller accommodation across Galway – these audits were then submitted to the Department of the Environment.
The findings have been incorporated into a national report on reviewing and enhancing fire safety in local authority provided Traveller accommodation across Ireland.
Galway County Council now says that the publication of the final report is ‘imminent’.
