Two Galway politicians are amongst the highest-costing senators and TDs over the lifetime of the current government.
That’s according to a new report which shows that Dail and Seanad politicians have cost the taxpayer almost €120 million since 2011.
The figures show that politicians in the Dail and in the Seanad have cost taxpayers €119m since the government took office in 2011.
Galway East Deputy Micheal Kitt received a total of €700,000 between 2011 and 2015 – the second highest figure nationwide behind Ceann Comhairle Deputy Sean Barrett.
The Fianna Fail Deputy received almost €505,000 of a salary during that period, with additional expenses of just under €196,000.
Meanwhile, Galway Senator Fidelma Healy Eames features in a list of the highest costing Senators – receiving a total of almost €410,000 between 2011 and 2015.
According to the report in the Irish Daily Mirror, the Independent Senator received a salary of €251,000 during that time, and claimed a further €158,000 in expenses.
The highest costing politician nationwide was, unsurprisingly, Taoiseach Enda Kenny, followed by Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney.
Enda Kenny was paid €781,000 of a salary between 2011 and 2015, with additional expenses of just under €297,000 – for a total of almost €1.1m.
