Anyone with aspirations to make their catwalk debut can get a taste for it next month, as Sheer Model Management celebrates its first birthday with a series of events in the city.
The agency will be holding a number of shows and workshops for potential models from Friday, July 3 to Sunday, July 5, during which it hopes to “bring Galway’s fashion scene back with a bang”.
The inaugural event will be an open casting on Shop Street, with professional photographer Oskar Boral on hand along with current Sheer models to spot any new talent. Funds will be raised on the day for Pieta House.
On the Saturday, Sheer will open their exclusive workshops to the public at Seven on Bridge Street from 12pm-4pm. These include a make-up master class with Claire Coleman, modelling instructions from Ciara Fallon, and photography training from Dave Cooley Photography.
To celebrate its first year, Sheer is offering the workshops at the reduced price of €15 each, or all three for €30, with tickets available on its website.
The climax of the weekend’s events will be a fashion show in the College Bar at NUI Galway, where local shops, designers and milliners will have their wares modelled by the Sheer team.
MC on the night will be Laura Duffy from Fashion Boss, and there will be a stilt walker to keep crowds entertained before the show.
There will also be raffle prizes and a prize for best dressed on the night. Doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 7pm.
Sheer Model Management, a professional modelling agency based in Galway, was established by designer Sorcha Browne last summer, when she decided to use her experience with models to provide training to new hopefuls.
“We currently have six models, there is always a demand and a hard choice to select just a few.
“It has been a huge success so far and great to see it grow.”
