Galway likely to be designated a Rent Pressure Zone

The Housing Minister Simon Coveney has this afternoon ‘set the ball rolling’ on the process of designating Galway a ‘Rent Pressure Zone.’
The designation for Galway is dependent on recommendations from the Housing Agency and Galway City Council – after which the Residential Tenancies Board will be tasked with analysing data on the rental sector in Galway.
It’s expected that the process would be complete by February after which the cap on annual rent increases announced by the government this week for Dublin and Cork would apply to Galway city.
Junior Minister and Galway West TD Sean Kyne said he’s confident the process for Galway can be sped up.
