Galway Bay fm newsroom – A state-of-the-art ocean observatory has been installed off the coast of Spiddal.
The project has been delivered by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), the Marine Institute and Commissioners of Irish Lights.
Equipment has been deployed to give researchers and ocean energy developers insight into the Galway bay marine environment.
The observatory is now entering a commissioning period and is expected to be operational in the coming months.
Data from the equipment will be fed via an underwater cable, which was deployed last April, to the Marine Institute in Renville, Oranmore where analysis will take place.
Declan Meally from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland says it will allow consistent monitoring of Galway bay.
