Galway Bay fm newsroom – Over 3100 students at schools across Galway are getting their Leaving Certificate results today.
1,595 girls and 1,512 boys from the city and county sat the state exams in June.
Of these, 82 students sat the Leaving Certificate Applied programme.
This year, almost 58,000 students took the exam at venues across ireland – up from just under 57,000 in 2014.
Most students will collect their marks in person, but the results will also be available online at examinations.ie from midday.
There’s been an increase for the third year running in the numbers failing honours maths – up one percent since last year to 5.2 percent, but there’s been a rise in grades for ordinary level maths.
One student has achieved nine A1s, while eight achieved 8 A1s.
Edudation Minister Jan O’Sullivan says it marks the end of a long wait for students and parents.
