Galway Bay fm newsroom – A City Councillor is asking the Justice Minister to explain what he describes as the ‘leniency’ of sentences being imposed for drug offences.
It’s after a Galway drug dealer was handed a five-month sentence for dealing heroin in the city.
Councillor Mike Cubbard has written to Minister Frances Fitzgerald outlining his concerns, and says harsher sentences need to be imposed.
He says the Gardaí are working hard to bring drug offenders to court, but the judicial system must support them.
