Galway Bay fm newsroom – A candlelit vigil in memory of the Irish students who were killed in a balcony collapse in Berkeley, California will take place in the city next week. (24/6)
It’s organised by a small group of Galway people to commemorate the 6 students who lost their lives.
The tragedy happened in the early hours of last Tuesday morning, during a party at an apartment to celebrate a 21st birthday.
A number of young people were standing on the balcony on the fourth floor when it collapsed.
5 Irish students and an Irish American relative of one of the students were killed while several more were seriously injured and remain in hospital.
It’s believed that two of the injured students were in college at NUIG.
A vigil will take place at 9p.m next Wednesday, June 24th at Eyre Square to coincide with a similar vigil being held in Berkeley.
