Galway Bay Fm newsroom – A therapeutic riding project involving Connemara ponies is to be featured at an international conference in Taiwan next week.
The conference, which deals with the benefit that horse and pony riding has for people affected by physical and mental challenges, takes place once every three years.
The Connemara project was fostered by community organisation and in the area in recent years.
An organisation called “Paving the Way” has worked alongside Forum Chonamara for some years in helping families and individuals with special needs.
A working group was set up with the involvement of the Connemara Pony Breeders Society and funding was obtained from the Leader programme in order to train coaches to a high level in therapeutic pony riding. Eleven coaches were trained and certified last year.
