Galway Bay fm newsroom – Two city councillors have become embroiled in a row over the use of a derogatory term in an email circulated earlier this month.
The matter was raised at City Hall where Fine Gael councillor Padraig Conneely described the remark as ‘an outrageous attack on his reputation’.
The meeting heard that the reference was used in an email from Fianna Fail councillor Michael Crowe to CPG members and council executives on June 3rd.
Councillor Conneely described the comment as ‘slanderous’ and said it has caused hurt not alone to him but to his family.
He then demanded that the use of the derogatory term be withdrawn.
Councillor Crowe said the use of the word was not intended to damage his character, it was to clarify his views of him on that occasion.
He later stated he had no difficulty in withdrawing the use of the word and regretted its use.
