Galway Bay fm newsroom – Residents on the R339 near Monivea have until Friday to make submissions on the controversial proposed closure of the road between Cartymore and Cashla.
The County Council has published a notice of intention to close the road to facilitate works on the new Gort to Tuam motorway.
A public meeting on the proposed closure took place is Cashla last month, and attracted more than 100 local residents.
Locals feel that there has been a lack of consultation with them by either the contractors or the council in relation to the planned works.
A petition for the council with over a thousand signatures was gathered in the local community.
The proposed works are being carried out by Sisk, and will involve the tie-in of the new overbridge road with the R339 at both ends.
It’s planned to fully close the stretch between Cartymore and Cashla for 3 weeks around Easter – which local residents and businesses are opposing.
Locals have until this Friday to make submissions on the proposed closure to Galway County Council.
