Galway Bay fm newsroom – The city council has granted an extension of the lease to Galway Flying Club to operate at Galway Airport in Carnmore.
At a meeting of the local authority this week, councillors supported the grant of the temporary leasehold until December 18th next year.
Galway Flying Club will have the use of the land, runway and Flying Club building for a consideration of 10 thousand 900 euro.
Councillor Padraig Conneely told the meeting that a lot of businesses have told him that they don’t want to rule out the possibility of the airport re-opening in the future.
Chief Executive of the city council, Brendan McGrath, said that the equipment at the airport is currently out of date and significant investment would be needed to allow the airport re-open with a higher aviation licence.
Councillor Conneely says that he’d like to see the results of a feasibility study on the future of Galway Airport.
