Questions raised over advisory group on council merger

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Questions are being raised about the membership of a newly formed Expert Advisory Group on the possible amalgamation of Galway City and County Councils.
Councillor James Charity says the CEOs of both authorities are among the members of the group – despite the fact that both councils have publicly voiced their opposition to a merger.
The Terms of Reference for the Expert Group were published by Minister Coveney late last week.
The group is expected to carry out a full analysis of an earlier report recommending amalgamation.
Councillor Charity says taxpayers’ money should not be used for another review.
