Galway Bay fm newsroom – A former UHG junior doctor has been accused of professional misconduct over a row which occured at a city pub in 2011.
It’s alleged Vikas Gobin tried to headbutt a pub bouncer and later bit him in the arm.
The matter has come before a disciplinary inquiry of the Medical Council.
It’s alleged to have taken place at the Front Door pub in the city in December 2011.
Dr. Gobin is accused of engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour towards one of the security personnell in the pub, and that he refused to leave in an orderly manner.
It’s also alleged that he tried to headbutt and bite the bouncer when he was being escorted from the pub.
The Irish Times online reports that the doctor is representing himself and is giving evidence by telelink from Indiana in the US.
While cross-examining, he argued that the hold the bouncer had on him was potentially lethal as his arm was compressing his windpipe.
The bouncer rejected this claim.
The hearing is due to last two days.
