Galway Bay fm newsroom – The plan to re-open the city’s Lough Atalia and College roads as two-way from Saturday is going ahead, however some elements of the previous traffic management plan will remain.
The City Council says the right turn ban at Moneenageisha will remain in place for the summer as a trial.
The proposal means traffic will continue to be banned from turning right from Moneenageisha Road onto College Road and from the Dublin Road onto Wellpark Road.
The Council says it’ll allow for further assessment of the impact of banning the right turns.
However, the two-way traffic flow on Lough Atalia and College roads will be re-instated.
The change will become effective at 7 o’ clock on Saturday morning. (20/6)
The traffic management plan was put in place in April to facilitate the lowering of the road under Lough Atalia bridge.
It was due to be removed within 8 weeks, however it was partially extended until tomorrow. (Fri)
There are differing views on the change of traffic flow along Lough Atalia and College Roads.
Local residents recently held a protest to try and ensure that the original traffic plan is re-instated.
However this week, Galway City Business Association came out in support of the current traffic flow which only allows one way traffic on Lough Atalia and College Roads.
