Galway Bay fm newsroom – Irish Water says postponing roadworks planned for Oranmore would have huge repercussions for the area.
A second consultation meeting in the village to discuss the planned implementation of road closures to facilitate water upgrade works was held in the village last evening.
Members of Oranmore’s business community have expressed concerns about the impending works, saying businesses and rate-payers in the town will be adversely affected.
Local Senator Fidelma Healy-Eames says one particular businessowner in Oranmore is paying 126 thousand euro a year in rates.
The temporary traffic management plan is expected to be in place for the period from tomorrow week Thurs June 18th to September 25th.
Athenry Oranmore area councillor Jim Cuddy says postponing the works until September would be a welcome relief to ratepayers in the village.
Irish Water spokesperson Sean Corrigan says there are over 2000 school children in Oranmore, and postponing the works until September would be unfeasible from a safety point of view:
