Galway Bay fm newsroom – It’s been revealed that city based theatre group Macnas is experiencing a major funding crisis.
A presentation given by the group to last night’s meeting of Galway City Council has outlined a significant shortfall in funding that will impact on this year’s festival.
General Manager Sharon O’ Grady says that the festival brings 50 thousand people to the city each year, and benefits the local economy to the tune of 10 million euro.
However, the street performance group is now facing a shortfall of 21 thousand euro – and they’re warning that the festival will suffer as a result.
Councillors were unable to agree on additional funding for the group due to budget concerns but pledged to seek additional support from Galway County Council and Failte Ireland.
General Manager Sharon O Grady says they need additional funding to keep the company afloat.
