Galway Bay fm newsroom – Campaigners are to seek an urgent meeting with the Minister for Health in a bid to address what they describe as an ambulance crisis in North Connemara.
The group formed in October last year and has been pushing for better response times for ambulance services in areas including Leenane, Renvyle and Kylemore.
After a meeting with the National Ambulance Service failed to deliver a commitment for the required resources, the group now plans to lobby Galway Oireachtas members in a bid to secure a meeting with Minister Varadkar.
Campaigners say that although the First Responder Scheme is in place assisted by 30 volunteers, it doesn’t solve the problem.
The matter is due to be raised in the Seanad this morning by Galway Senator Trevor O’Clochartaigh.
Patricia Kane is part of the local steering group – she says 2 to 3 hour wait times are not acceptable and may end up in the loss of life.
