Galway Bay fm newsroom – Marathon talks on Apple’s energy policies are continuing this evening at the oral hearing on the tech giant’s planned Athenry data centre.
The company has committed to running the 850 million euro centre using 100 percent renewable energy – but its capacity to do so has been questioned over the past two days by a number of appellants.
Some appellants accused the technology giant of ‘misrepresentation’ in relation to its claims that it would use renewables for the Athenry facility.
One person has today accused Apple of ‘jumping on the global warming, renewable energy gravy-train.’ However, Apple’s renewable energy expert Frederick Freeman said all of Apple’s data centres around the world have been operating using 100% renewable energy since 2013 – and Athenry will be no different.
The hearing continues.
