Galway Bay fm newsroom – Concerns have been raised over the impact of maternity leave on resources within the Galway garda division.
The matter was raised at the county Joint Policing Committee meeting by Connemara area councillor Joe Folan.
He said female members of the force are not replaced when they go on maternity leave and this leaves a significant gap in resources.
The independent councillor says the situation must be reviewed to ensure there is sufficient manpower during such periods of leave.
Chief Superintendent Tom Curely said he has brought the matter up at national level and it’s an issue for the Garda HR department.
Councillor Folan says the Garda Siochana should have the same system as other areas of the public sector.
