Gardai have identified up to 20 people suspected of being involved in a Galway online fraud ring.
The matter was raised at county Joint Policing Committee level where Garda Chief Superintendent Tom Curley said a dedicated team has been upskilled as part of the investigation.
It comes as records show Galway has the highest theft rate on the Done Deal website.
Chief Superintendent Curley told members goods are being delivered to false addresses with thousands of euro at stake.
He says Galway consumers should never provide their banking details over the phone.
