Galway Bay fm newsroom – A book of condolence is to open at City Hall later this morning for the victims of yesterday’s balcony collapse in Berkeley, California.
The victims have been named as 21-year-olds Olivia Burke, Eoghan Culligan, Niccolai Schuster, Lorcan Miller and Eimear Walsh – and 22-year-old Irish-American Ashley Donohoe from California – who was a cousin of one of the Irish students who died.
7 other Irish students were seriously injured when the balcony gave way – with a number of them said to be in a life-threatening condition.
The book will open as a show of solidarity at 11am at City Hall.
Newly elected Galway Mayor Frank Fahy told this programme it’s been an emotional time for all parents with children abroad.
