Galway Bay fm newsroom – It’s hoped a contract will be awarded in the next three weeks for the seizure of wandering horses around the county.
The county Joint Policing Committee heard that the local authority is going through a procurement process after it had to retender.
Director of Services Peter Gavican told the committee a report on the supplier and terms should be available once this retender process is complete.
The ongoing controversy surrounding wandering horses was also raised at a recent meeting in City Hall.
City councillor Terry O’Flaherty queried whether the problem is concentrated in the east of the city.
Director of Services Tom Connell said the problem impacts both the east and the west of the city.
He clarified the cost of horse removal is 450 euro as well as the additional cost of housing the animal which brings the sum to 1 thousand euro.
